Geoff Cooke
I have served on the board of Rugby Oldham for the past year, being responsible for Community Relations. I have had formal meetings with the Directors of Oldham RLFC[1997] Ltd., with Oldham RL Service Area officials and with members of Oldham Council and their appointed officials. Informally I have had contact with representatives of the Oldham Amateur League, Waterhead, St.Anne’s and Saddleworth Rangers. All this has been in the cause of advancing the objective of acquiring a Rugby League Community Stadium for Oldham. All parties approached have declared their support for such an objective and I would hope to be able to continue to work towards this goal. In addition, I have had a major input to the marketing of the 1956-57 Commemorative Replica Shirt, the sales of which have been an outstanding success.
Simon Winnard
I have been involved with the Trust from the offset and had a number of roles during that time. It has been a great experience to work with my fellow board members who all bring a wealth of experience, skills and enthusiasm to representing Trust members.
The only reason for my being involved in the Trust is to help rugby league once again find a home in the town. On that front, we have made some massive strides forward in recent months and because of this there is an increasing amount of workload. Therefore, if elected, I would now look to now focus solely on that element of the Trusts activities.
Charlotte Deakin
I have always been a fan of Oldham Rugby and have a real enthusiasm for the sport. Rugby League is in my blood (my uncle played for the town).
I was a member of the original Trust steering group and since the very first meeting I have actively helped the board, producing the template for the regular newsletters, various posters and advertising materials, most recently to promote the celebration dinner.
I also set up and moderate a forum for Oldham fans on a popular Rugby League Website.
I work in Learning Resources at the Sixth Form College. My role allows me the enjoyable task of working with young people – the future of our town and also given me practised IT and marketing skills.
As a member of the Trust board I would be looking to use my expertise to continue marketing and publicising the Trust effectively to increase membership and awareness of our events, achievements and aspirations.
I believe the young people are ultimately the future of Rugby League in Oldham and I look forward to working with them and their families to ensure Oldham’s great rugby heritage continues. This can be achieved through Rugby Oldham.
Iain Taylor
I have been the elected Chairman of the Trust for the past year and have been involved in all aspects of the Trusts activities throughout that time.
The Trust has made significant headway towards its primary aim and needs to continue in its quest. The experience which I have gained over the past year is important in progressing the Trusts aims further.
